For those out there that still take the time to read paragraphs rather than bullet points (and enjoy a little humor)…
What can this David guy do for me? That’s the real question you have, right? Well, I can design and produce anything from a Pop-Tart box to an e-commerce website. What I really enjoy doing is redesigning companies’ existing material. The ugly monster of mediocrity seems to have slipped in the back door with the advent of personal computers. There are so many bad designs that were done by people with good intentions. Anyone’s son, daughter, brother, or cousin with a computer has the delusion that they can “design” the family company’s website and marketing materials in a professional way. Well, if I may be so bold, let me tell ya, they CAN’T.
Just so you don’t think I’m throwing some kind of artist tantrum, let’s ask ourselves a couple of simple questions, ok? Let’s say I own a plunger (which I certainly do and would advise any home owner to do the same for details we’ll not go into at this time) does that make me a plumber? Umm, no. In case you think I’ve pulled a fast one on you, let’s do one more example, shall we? Let’s say I open a can of Chef Boyardee, Spaghetti & Meatballs (I use this example because I consider myself to be one of the foremost authorities on Chef Boyardee, it is without question a staple in my lunch time diet). Anyway, back to opening the can. Alright, I’ve opened my can, emptied the contents into a microwave safe container (which is permanently stained with a strange orange color) and heat for 1.5 minutes. The result, a tasty lunch fit for a king. Now here’s my question… does that make me a chef? True, I am highly skilled with a microwave, but ultimately no, I’m not a chef. You see, a professional made the product, I just consumed it. Think about it, who is better qualified to “design” something that will represent your company? Someone with over 20 years of professional design experience, plus a life time of God-given creativity coursing through their veins (I’m talking about myself here just to clarify), OR your [insert family or friend here] who just bought a computer and managed to get a bootleg copy of Corel or FrontPage?
The truth of the matter is that design is about communication and problem solving. It’s not just about arranging pretty pictures. So, here’s the low down… print or web design, I can do it… website, business card, billboard, CD cover, book cover, magazine ad, brochure, catalog, proposal, logo, or Pop-Tart box, I’m your man.
